These white-faced sheep originate from Belgian Texels, hence the name which was created by blending the two words Belgian and Texel to give the portmanteau word "Beltex". Famed for their extremely heavy muscling, especially in the hindquarters, Beltex sheep were first introduced to Britain in 1989 and have taken the British lamb industry by storm ever since.
